When you were a child, you had disagreements with your parents, teachers and other children. You'd express your views and they'd tell you to be quiet or not to share that sort of thought again. Your response could have been, 'I can say what I want. It's a free country!'. Most of us have been in this kind of situation, where you or the opponent in the conversation implies that, when it comes to one’s speech, it's a free country.
